FORMALIN FIXED PARAFFIN EMBEDDED
FFPE tissue samples are fixed in 10% neutral-buffered formalin within 30 minutes of surgery excision. Tissue samples are fixed for 18 hours and embedded in IHC-grade paraffin. Standard sample size is 1 x 1 x 0.5 cm. The fixation agent and the embedding media can be customized upon request.
QUALITY CONTROL PROCEDURE
The initial review of the samples is performed by the Quality Control Manager at the Pathology laboratory.
Initial review assesses and confirms the following:
- Proper sample format and condition
- Sample size
- Proper labeling
Tissue specimens should not be larger than 1 x 1 x 0.5 cm.
PATHOLOGY REVIEW OF THE SAMPLES
Basic quality control practice includes a morphologic review of H&E stained slides;
The review is performed by an independent MD pathologist.
Pathology review (made by a certified MD pathologist) includes:
- Tissue type and assessment of diagnosis;
- Tumor type;
- Presence of tumor;
- Cell content of tumor and stromal area by percentage;
- Percentage of tumor necrosis;
- Presence of artifacts.
The following standard clinical information will be provided for each sample:
- Basic information (age, ethnicity, height, weight, gender)
- Date of sample procurement
- Clinical diagnosis (tumor location, type, stage, grade, TNM)
The pathology report can include information about standard molecular markers, for instance ER, PR, HER2 status for breast cancer.
FRESH FROZEN
Fresh frozen tissue samples are snap-frozen in liquid nitrogen within 30 minutes of surgery excision. Standard sample weight is 200-300 mg. Fresh frozen tissue sample collection is performed strictly following the Us4Cure SOP. Samples can be collected in embedding media upon request.
The following standard clinical information will be provided for each sample:
